Obituary

Obituary
Maudine “Dina” Jones Nelson was born to the late Rev. James Jones and Mrs. Martha Jones Harper on September 14th, 1954. She transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, North Carolina.

Throughout her life, Dina lived in Texas, Washington, DC. and Virginia. She graduated from Howard University with a Bachelors of Science degree in 1978. For numerous years, she was employed by IBM as a project manager. She was also a Mary Kay director. She was united in holy matrimony to Azell W Nelson on September 1, 1979 and to this union, one child Shane R. Nelson was born.

Dina always had a zest for life. Her many interests included adventurous activities such as hang gliding, parasailing, and riding motorcycles with her husband. She had a strong love of music, plays, and traveling. Going to the beach was one of her favorite ways to relax. She regularly attended concerts and plays with family and friends. During her quiet times, she enjoyed reading a good book and writing poetry. Dina was deeply loved by her family and friends.

Dina lived a life of service not only to her family, but also to her church. She was a devoted member of Union Baptist Church for over 30 years. As a faithful member, she served on the Usher Ministry, the Women's Chorale, the Stephen Ministry, the Publicity and Communications Ministry, and Youth Ministry.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Shane R Nelson (Rhyan); mother, Martha Jones Harper; grandson, Hudson Azell Nelson; brother, Jameson Carter; step-sister, Gail Howell; step-brothers, Billy Harper and Dudley Harper; godson, Kenny Robertson; sisters-in-law, Ann Nelson, Joyce Urby and Lillian (Robert) Walker; a brother-in-law, Eugene Nelson and a host of cousins and amazing friends.
