Obituary for William Alvin Bailey

William Alvin Bailey was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on January 22, 1933. He was born to the late Luzenia and Louis Bailey. William departed this life, Sunday, January 15, 2023.

He attended the Elizabeth Public School System and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1951. William became a member of the New Zion Baptist Church where he attended Sunday School and Church services. Early in life he discovered his gift of singing and was a member of various choirs while attending Blessed Assurance Baptist Church.
Bill was the name that he was known by during his years of employment with Atlantic Container Line, a place where he worked until his retirement in 1992. After retiring William moved to Durham, NC and dedicated much of his free time to volunteering. He was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2008.

William was affectionately known as “Babe” to family and friends, and led an eventful and active life. He enjoyed traveling; his favorite destination was anyplace that a cruise ship was headed.

He loved being with his family at the Tate Family Reunions, writing newsletters and serving as Chaplin.
William loved the Lord and never hesitated to tell you how good God was to him!

Cherishing his precious memories are his three nieces, Minister Christine Hardy of Linden, NJ, Darrell Dunbar of Paterson, NJ, and Reva Dunbar as well as two nephews, Alonzo Jones, Jr. And Darrow Trice, both of Elizabeth, NJ along with a host of cousins and friends, including a special cousin Reverend Benjamin Green.
