Obituary for Vergie Green Davis

Vergie Mae Green Davis, daughter of Vertie Green and Oscar Judd was born in Durham, North Carolina on July 26, 1965. She transitioned from this life peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Duke Hock Family Pavilion. Vergie was affectionately called Queen Sugar or Sister Girl by family and friends.

Vergie received her education in the Durham Public School System and graduated from Durham High School class of 1983. During her high school years, she served in the Marching Band as the Co-Captain of the Flag Corp and was an active participant in various extracurricular activities. Vergie received her Bachelors Degree in Education from University of Mount Olive in 2013.

As a teenager Vergie began to work for the Durham County Library Summer Program, then in 1982 as a part time temporary Library Page. She continued to learn and grow and became a permanent Library Clerk in 1986. Serving in different roles during her career such as working in the AV Department, Outreach Services, and her most recent role as the Circulation Manager until retirement in 2015.

Vergie was a people person and the life of the party for the family. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Her smile could light up a room wherever she went, and because of her personality and love for people she serviced the Durham area as a cosmetologist until her health declined. She once stated, “I am retired and enjoying life, I think I want to find me another little job.” In August of 2017 she became employed with Duke University Health Access Services, where she served until her health decline.

Vergie leaves to cherish her memories her children, Robby Davis (Kendra) of Greensboro, NC and Bobby Davis, of Durham, NC; mother, Vertie G. Russell (Thomas); father, Oscar Judd (Sharyn) all of Durham, NC; sisters, Judy Green, of Durham, NC and LaShonda Bryant (Michael) of Charlotte, NC; Miss Tiny (The Loving Puppy); brothers, Antonio Judd of Durham, NC and Ricky Foushee, of Durham, NC; grandchild, Christopher White; fiancé, Kenneth Farrow and special daughter, Miracle Farrow, both of Durham, NC; a childhood and lifetime friend, Wanda Maria Huggins of Raleigh, NC along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
