Obituary for Mr. Van Clark, Jr.

Mr. Van Clark, Jr, son of Bessie Clark and Van Clark Sr; was born September 20,1957 in Nashville, North Carolina. He transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on March 24, 2022.

During his early years Van’s first job was working under his father at Holiday Inn Downtown Durham. Later he worked at Mutual Savings & Loan. Over the past 36 years Van Jr. worked at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), as a Project Manager through Raven Services and OE Enterprises until his retirement on February 27, 2022.

He was educated in Edgecombe County Public Schools, Durham Public Schools. He graduated from Durham High School Class of 1975; and attended North Carolina Central University (NCCU).

Mr. Clark was baptized at an early age by Reverend W.L. Mason at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and united with Union Baptist Church in 1969. He was a member of the Junior Male Chorus, the Senior Male Chorus, and served as a coach for the UBC youth basketball and softball teams. His biggest love was singing and directing on 2nd Sundays with the Senior Male Chorus.

Van Jr. loved ALL sports and enjoyed bowling. He supported NCCU Athletics by attending basketball and football games faithfully until his health declined. Van Jr. was a Softball and Baseball Official for USSSA, coached basketball with South Durham Youth Athletic League and AAU basketball.

Van Jr loved his family and was especially very proud of his children and grandchildren. He was known by several different names by all who knew and LOVED him: Big Guy, PaPa, Papa Bear, Paw Paw, Pops, Daddy Clark, and Papa V, just to name a few.

He was preceded in death by his Maternal grandparents Ellis Gray and Orabelle Whitley, his Paternal grandparents Nathaniel and Queenie Horne and Mother-In-Law Delores Boyette.

He lives to cherish his memory: his loving and supportive wife, Pamela Boyette Clark; his parents Bessie and Van Clark, Sr; one daughter, Renee Nicole Clark of Arlington, VA; five sons, Van Clark, III (Shante) of Fayetteville, NC, Wesley Clark (Dominique) of Concord, NC, Nicholas L. Evans (Valencia) of Durham, NC, Reginald D. Evans (Rocio) of Durham, NC, and 1st Lt. Eric Evans of Fort Knox, KY; thirteen grandchildren, Divina Jahdi, Ariel, Asia, Zoë Drew, Zara Rae, Zuri Wes, Andre, KeShawn, Christian, Jeremiah, Julian, Adrian and Kai; one sister, Pamela Clark Pagan; one nephew Vinson Lee Clark Pagan, one aunt, Mabel Hairston (Uncle Jackie); Sister-In-Law, DeAndrea Boyette, Father-In-Law, William Boyette and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.

The family encourages Memorial Donations in memory of Van Clark Jr. be made to NCCU Athletic Department.
