Obituary for Sonnie Cozart

Sonnie Cozart, Jr. was born to the late Lillian Cash Cozart and
Eugene (PG) Cozart in Roxboro, North Carolina on October 1,
1938. Educated in Person County schools, he was immersed in
the community until he moved to Durham where he met Nettie
Garrett.

Sonnie and Nettie were married on December 16, 1960, and in
time they were married they were blessed with a loving family
consisting of two sons and one daughter. Sonnie, who was "often
referred to as Joe Lewis was a lover of our Savior Jesus Christ and
was a member ofMt. Zoar Baptist Church for 50 years he worked
faithfully. He was a member of the male chorus, trustee board,
and served on the finance committee.

Sonnie was a small engine mechanic who worked at Western
Auto and later at Sears Corporation until he retired in1997, after
50 years of service. In his leisure, Sonnie could be found outside
fixing and tinkering on cars and lawnmowers, but most often
tilling and planting in his garden where he found his greatest
enjoyment.

Brother Cozart departed this life on August 8, 2022, at Duke
Hospice.

He was preceded in life by his loving wife Nettie Garrett
Cozart of 52 years.

He is survived by his children, Ronnie Garrett (Linda), Annette
Cozart and Timothy Cozart (Genia) 4 granddaughters, 3
grandsons, 1 great granddaughter, 2 great-grand sons along with
a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends .
