Obituary for Quenittie Elizabeth Moore (Evans)

Mrs. Quenittie Elizabeth Evans Moore was born on February 17, 1931, in Wake County, North Carolina to the late Otis Evans and Mirdie Lee Evans. She departed this life Monday, March 13, 2023, with family by her side.

Mrs. Moore received her education in the Wake and Durham County school systems, graduating from Merrick-Moore High School. She was a proud member of the Merrick-Moore/Mill Grove Alumni Association.

Mrs. Moore attended what was then Durham Business College, a school founded by Dr. Lucinda M. Harris in 1946 for the purpose of training Blacks for business careers. She also took classes at North Carolina College (now North Carolina Central University).

Mrs. Moore worked at various nursing homes in Durham and at Watts Hospital, which was located on the site that is now the North Carolina School of Math and Science.

Mrs. Moore’s affinity for serving those experiencing grief led her to work as a Funeral Attendant with several funeral homes in Durham, her last employment being with Ellis D. Jones, and Sons.

Mrs. Moore was an aspiring writer. Though none her works were formerly published, she found writing to be a way of expressing her emotions. She also loved snow, especially watching it fall. In her advanced years, Mrs. Moore became somewhat of the “neighborhood matriarch” to the children and grandchildren whose parents predeceased her. Above all she was a GREAT mom!

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Mr. Wallace Henry Moore, her brother Galvester (Ves) Evans, granddaughter, Lisa Marie Moore, and son, Wallace Henry (Jack) Moore, Jr.

Mrs. Moore leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Rev. Herman L. Moore (Teresa),
Three daughters, Gloria E. Moore, Mirdie R. Moore, and Minister Wannesia J. Wilson (Jimmy); two grandsons, James D. Holloway (Danielle) and Jermaine D. Holloway (Latisha); three great grandsons, Kai Holloway, Knox Holloway, and Levi Holloway; one granddaughter, Tierra Jones (Brian); three nieces, Patricia Foster, Rosette Evans, and Valerie Shands (James); two nephews, John W. Evans and Lloyd (Buddy) Hinson (Sybil); two sisters in law, Earlene Moore Cameron and Gloria Moore; her god daughter, Glenda Morgan, a very special friend, David Lucas and a host of other relatives and friends.

If roses grow in Heaven, Lord Please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my mother’s arms and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her that I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while.
Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day,
but there’s an ache within my heart that will never go away.
