Obituary for Pearlie Walker Roundtree (Hayes)

Pearlie Mae Walker Roundtree passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2019 in Durham NC. She was born on July 2, 1932 in Person County, NC to Lonnie and Pearlie Blackwell. She was the youngest of five children. After her mother's passing she was raised by Mrs. Julia Hayes.
"Ma Pearl" as she was affectionatley known, was a seamstress in her early years, before her children. She was known throughout the community as the best. She could look at a design, grab a needle, thread, and create something better. She participated in the Senior Games in 2000, winning second place in softball and basketball shooting.
She was married to the late Lee Afford, Sr. and to this union her three children were born. She later found love with the late Mr. Walker and Mr. Roundtree.
Pearlie was an usher, member of the senior chorus and the missionary treasurer at Siloam Missionary Baptist Church where she attended Sunday school faithfully. Pearl once said, “I remember my early years better then the last ten years which is why my grandchildren and great-grandchildren are here to do for me".
She is preceded in death by her siblings, Dora Watson, Walter Blackwell, Charlie Blackwell, and Willie Blackwell; her youngest daughter, Brenda Taborn; and grandchild, Laquania McNeil.
Pearlie is survived by one daughter, Pearlie Ann Cameron (Wanza); one son, Lee Afford, Jr. ; six grandchildren, Lisa Afford, Sherreka K. Whitaker, Shawn Bradsher, April Wise (Xavier), Tia Taborn; 22 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews other family & friends.
