Obituary

“I’ve fought a good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith.....” II Timothy 4:7

Pamela Genene Gatling (Amos) Williams, 71, transitioned in peace with her Heavenly Father, receiving a new body, heart and mind early Tuesday morning, November 17, 2020.

Pam was born in Sunbury, NC on August 9, 1949 to the late Winefred “Freddie” Gatling Reid and Charlie “Joe” Gatling. Pam’s early childhood was spent in Sunbury, NC on her beloved Gatling Road playing with cousins and friends. She attended Gates County Public Schools and embarked on her on journey to Durham, NC to study at North Carolina Central University for a short time.

During this time, Pam met and married Joseph Amos and to this union Rishanda was born. They both had a love for singing and were part of the original members of The New Generations Choir under Mr. Oren Marsh. Through the years, Joe remained a loving presence in Pam’s life and a devoted father to Rishanda.
After this time, her zest for wanting to become her own boss, she decided to attend De’Shazor’s Beauty College. She was co-owner/operator of Pam & Dee’s Hair Salon and the owner of The Hair Affair Salon. She then decided to share this knowledge with others interested in this industry as a Cosmetology Instructor at what was formerly known as Durham High School. To this day, many of her students still give many praises for being a pivotal part of their training in the industry.

In 1985, Pam married Harry Lee Williams....together they loved and parented Rishanda J. Amos and Kamesa D. Crumdy. She was a member of Mt. Level Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, NC until her health declined. Pam loved and lived life to the fullest. She shared this love with her many family members, friends and students. She was well known for providing delicious meals, baked goods, having a “green thumb” with plants and gardening, and her love for singing and dancing. She was a smart businesswoman and was dedicated to whatever she set her hand to do.

Her love and devotion will be forever in the hearts and memories of her family.....her loving husband Harry L. Williams; her daughters Rishanda Amos Fowler of Durham, NC and Kamesa Crumdy of Greensboro, NC; sister, Belinda G. Banks (Duane) of Goldsboro, NC; five grandchildren Kierra Davis, Darius Davis, Zakiah Fowler, of Durham, NC, Greyson Nesbitt of Greensboro, NC and Ki-Jana Crumdy of Bowie, Maryland; three great grandchildren, Cassidy Davis, Layla Davis, and Autumn Davis, all of Durham, NC; two nieces, Ava N. Banks of Charlotte, NC and LaKeisha W. Enoch of Graham, NC; two nephews, Ehron D. Banks of Charlotte, NC and Andre Williams of Durham, NC and a host of extended family, special cousins, adored homegirls and loving friends.

The family of Pamela G. Williams would like to express their sincere appreciation for all acts of kindness shown to them during this time of bereavement. A special heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pettigrew Rehabilitation Center for their dedicated love, care and concern for Pam over the past few years. There’s no way to express the appreciation that we have for the “special” friends that helped in Pam’s care in various ways, even if it may have been small, it was necessary. May God bless each of you in a very special way. Love, The Family.

As the oldest cousin who lived with Pam and her parents for a year when I was 7-8 years old, I remember baby sitting Pam while her Mom and Dad were working the field near their house. Pam grew up to be a role model for our family . I remember her for her entreprenuial spirit and that spirit motivated me and all those around her. Pam, RIP. You will be missed.

Pam,

how vividly I remember my visits to Sunbury as a child from New York during the summer months. You and I were the same age and shared many adventures and laughs together. Although most of these laughs were on me. Walking down Gatling Road at night you loved cutting off the flashlight leaving me in the dark screaming as you reminded me of the many snakes that were out at night.

There were long gaps between the years that we would see each other, but the memories of those early years, pig pull gathering and family reunions in Sunbury are permanently etched in my mind. The bond and love between cousins were never lost. Rest in peace. Love you much.

I will always remember my visits with "mama Pam". Her smiles and laughing, her dancing from the bed and singing her own songs. She is now singing with the Angels.
