Mary L. Allen was born to the late Flora and Henry Garnett on June 5th, 1939, in Oxford, North Carolina. On Wednesday, November 30th, 2022, at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, North Carolina while surrounded by her loving family; God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so God gentle closed her eyes and whispered, “Peace be mine”.

Mary was married to the late Wallace “Ham” Allen. She was preceded in death by one son McArthur Allen, three brothers Andrew Garnett, James Garnett, and William Garnett.

Mary was educated in the Granville County Schools System. She was employed at Burlington Industries before her health declined. She was a faithful member of Siloam Baptist Church where she attended as long as her health permitted her.

She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy two daughters: Shirley Thorpe (James), Wilma Allen, of Durham, NC; four granddaughters: Quintonia Walker (Rodney) of Durham, NC, Latasha Dorsey (Reginald), Dewanda Allen, Jacynta Bryant of Burlington, NC; three sisters: Lillie May Lyons, Luvenia Carter, Beatrice Garnett; one sister in-law Betty Lowe; eight great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren and a host other loving relatives and friends.
