Obituary for Marlon Ra'Mon Shields

Marlon was born on July 21, 1975, in Baltimore, MD to parents James H. Shields, Jr. and Muriel A. Lee. He spent most of his childhood in Cambridge, MD. He absolutely adored his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Lakisha F. Smith, in 2009 in Durham, NC, and the couple had three sons together. He has another son, whom he adored, Marrone Shields. He has two adorable granddaughters, who affectionately referred to him as “P Dot.”

Marlon graduated from Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, in Cambridge, MD in 1993. He joined the Marine Corps in August 1993 and was honorably discharged in July 1996. He then spent most of his career working as a Support Specialist in the Service Industry.

Marlon was a deeply caring man, who cared about his family, friends, and colleagues. He loved helping others, and never met a stranger. He always went above and beyond, and took pride in taking special care of others. He enjoyed reading the bible, spending time with family, helping others, music, fashion, and exercise. He was a Christian and a member of Newhope Church in Durham, NC. His family and friends will always remember his genuine smile, quiet nature, and passionate spirit.

Marlon will be forever remembered by his beloved wife, Lakisha F. Smith-Shields, of Durham, NC; his adult children, Marlon R. Shields II (Leigha) of Durham, NC, and Marrone R. D. Shields (Mia) of Greensboro, NC; his younger children Khalil Shields and M’Kari Shields, both of Durham, NC; his brother Daryl M. Shields of Cambridge, MD; his sister India Shields of Cambridge, MD; his two granddaughters M’Alei Shields and Zhy’Lei Shields, both of Durham, NC; and a host of beloved nephews and nieces.

Marlon was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James Herbert Shields, Sr. of Cambridge, MD; his paternal grandmother, Lenora Shields of Cambridge, MD; his maternal grandfather, Levin H. Lee of Woolford, MD; his maternal grandmother, Alice B. Lee of Hurlock, MD; and his father, James Herbert Shields, Jr. of Salisbury, MD.

The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at 12:00 PM at Ellis D. Jones & Sons, Funeral Home in Durham, NC. The viewing will be held on Monday, July 13, 2020 from 12:00-5:00 PM, at the same location. Immediate family members are welcome to attend and celebrate Marlon’s life. Extended family members and friends are welcome to attend the funeral via a live-streaming format. The internment will be held at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Dorchester County, Maryland on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 2:00 PM.
