Obituary for Mable Dot Dixon (Peaks)

God called Mable Dot (Peaks) Dixon from labor to reward on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Duke University Hospital. She was born in Durham County, NC to the late Meredith and Mamie Sowell Peaks. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Theldora Peaks Covington and brothers, J.C. Thomas Peaks and Orange Rufus Peaks.

Mable attended Durham County Schools. At an early age, she dedicated her life to Christ at Cameron Grove Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late J. E. Thorpe. She was one of their oldest members. Her favorite song was “Precious Lord”.

Mable worked as a home care attendant, housekeeper, and at Goodwill Stores and The Durham Cannery. She enjoyed crossword and word search puzzles, fishing, gardening, reading, shopping, and traveling. She adored her grandchildren and loved her family.

She leaves to cherish her memories her six children: Thera McLean (Durham, NC); Evelyn (Jerry) McClure (Durham, NC); Curtis (Priscilla) Ramseur (Durham, NC); Calvin (Wendy) Ramseur (Durham, NC); Geraline Elliott (Durham, NC); Priscilla (Terrell) Mitchell (Savannah, GA); one aunt, Vergie Mangum (Durham, NC); 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren; a special God grandson, James Anderson (Durham, NC), a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
