Obituary for Mrs. Lucille Cooper Duffin

Lucille Cooper Duffin, daughter of the late Ruie Lewis and Abbie Janette Wilson Cooper, was born February 25, 1934 in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life Monday, April 3, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

At an early age Lucille became a member of the St. Mark A.M.E. Church in Hemmingway, South Carolina. Upon moving to Durham with her husband, she became of member of Union Baptist Church in 1964. She became actively involved in the Helping Hand Missionary, Senior Choir, Voices of Union and the Grady Davis Choir.

Lucille Duffin was joined in holy matrimony for over 50 years to the late James Burnis Duffin.

Lucille (affectionately known as “Tootsie”) leaves to cherish her memory; three daughters, Gloria (Jerry) Barnett, Vivian (John) Duffin and Emma Duffin; two sisters, Christine Oliver Gamble of Florence, South Carolina and Thara Hickson of Lake City, South Carolina; Virgie Mangum, who served as a mother figure when Tootsie moved to North Carolina; Josephine Mumford, her travel partner and close friend; the great Ladies of the Thrifty Save Club; Paulette Thorpe, who always gave love and support of our Mother along with a host of nieces, nephews other family and friends.
