Obituary for Karen McLaurin

Karen Lynette McLaurin was born to the late Charles and Patricia Cannady on June 15, 1966. She departed this walk of life at Duke Hospital surrounded by her family and friends on November 16, 2022.

Karen was educated in the Durham Public School System, and was the owner and operator of her home daycare; “Karen’s Playhouse.” She was affectionately known as “Ms. NORTH DURHAM,” Karen burg, ma, grandma, ma ma Karen, and most of all, and to everyone “MOMMA”.

Karen, with her contagious smile and pleasant spirit touched the hearts of many. If you knew her, you knew you were in for a good laugh and a good time. Blood did not make you family If she found out you were in need, she was there for you indeed.

Karen was preceded in death by her two sisters, Felicia and Stephanie McLaurin.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories two sons, John and Brandon McLaurin; grandchildren, Emoni Tate, Jy'meir and Zy'sean McLaurin; great granddaughter, Naveaah Tate, special Great Granddaughter, “Nyla”; special nephew, Bradley McLaurin; nephews, Timothy McLaurin and Michael; nieces, Theresa and Brittany McLaurin;a special daughter in love, Jackie Tate; special friend, Steven Dean, Mr Don, Tracie; and a host of relatives, family and friends.
