Mr. James Alton Holder departed this life on Sunday, December 6, 2020 in New
Haven, CT. Born to the late Saint Mandy and Rosa Rodgers Holder on April 24, 1939
in Durham, NC, he was the oldest of eight children. He attended the Merrick Moore
High School and later relocated to New Haven, CT in 1967, where he was employed
by Olin Winchester for 10 years. James attended Technical Careers Institute in West
Haven, CT where he obtained his degree as an Automotive Technician.
He had a passion for fixing cars. In his earlier years he enjoyed riding motorcyles. He
also enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching Nascar Racing. He attended church at
Miracle Church of God where the Pastor is Bishop Eugene Collins.
James leaves to cherish his memory: Two sons, Walter LeRon Holder and Alton Lee
Holder of Durham, NC; one granddaughter, Alquita LaRonda Carr of New Haven,
CT; one great grandson, Legend Lee Gary of New Haven, CT. One brother, Willie
Holder of New Haven, CT; Four sisters, Rosa Mae Jones, Geraldine Holder, Delphine
Holder of Durham, NC and Barbara Williams of Hillsborough, NC. Supportive and
loving companion, Gertude Boomer of New Haven, CT. A host of nieces, nephews,
relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by one son, Tommy Arness Holder and
two brothers, Louis Holder Jr. and Otis Holder.
