Obituary for Mr. James Westley Higgins
Mr. James Westley Higgins the oldest of four children was born December 5, 1940, in Middlesex, NC to the late William Westley Heggins and Levennie Holder Heggins. He passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, in Chapel Hill, NC.
He was educated in Nash and Wake County Schools. He retired from the United States Army after 22 years of service. He was awarded the Purple Heart during his first tour of duty during the Vietnam War.
He was a Past Master of Eureka Lodge #3 Free & Accepted Masons Prince Hall Affiliated (PHA) of North Carolina, Past Grand Inspector General 33 ° of Edward Evans Consistory #196 and United Supreme Council Southern Jurisdiction. Also, a member of Queen Ester Chapter #3 Order of the Eastern Star, PHA.
James loved and married, the late Gussie Speed, Helen Holland, and the late Mae Underwood.
He enjoyed Cooking and Gardening and would get out to fish when he could.
James leaves to cherish him memory, his children, Shirley Dianne Higgins, James Higgins, Jr, Timothy Lutz, Eric Snow, Pamela Higgins Brown, Erica Baptiste and Anthony Higgins; sister, Juliann Heggins Carrington; Uncles, Rudell Holder, Ramond Holder, Billy Roy Holder; Aunts, Bernice Holder Jones, Emma Gene Holder along with a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings: Joseph Higgins and Shirley Higgins Carrington.
