Obituary for Hallie Green (Mangum)

"Don’t spend too much time in mourning, tears are for the sad. I left to be with Jesus and this should make you glad."

Hallie Mangum Green, daughter of the late Waylon Mangum Sr. and Millie Mangum was born on May 6, 1924 in Wake County. Hallie departed this earthly life on December 5, 2021 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC.

Hallie retired from Durham County Public School System in 1982 as a Custodian. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. She was a member of the Senior Choir and participated in the beautification of the sanctuary. Hallie was truly a woman of God. Her life’s motto was “treat people, the way you want to be treated because you never know who you may need.” Hallie spent her entire life taking care of family, she ensured everyone had a roof over their head and food in their belly’s.

She was married to William Henry Green in 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland.

She is preceded in death by one daughter, Katherine J. Barlow; sisters Maggie M Holeman, Ardell “Creasy” Robertson, Emma L. Garrett; brothers, Charlie Mangum Sr. (Vivian), Waylon Mangum Jr. (Lether) and a foster brother Harvey Lee Hinton.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Julius L. Green, Anthony Green (Cynthia), Brenda F. Green and Lisa Green all of Durham; two sons-in-law, David L. Barlow and Gerald Green of Durham; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and host of devoted nieces, nephews and cousins.
