Obituary for Fannie Mae Gibbs (Long)

Mrs. Fannie Mae Gibbs. affectionately known as “Mother/Momma Gibbs" was born April 12, 1931, to the late James Long and the late Sally Louise Long in Orlando, Florida. She departed this life on Monday, September 19, 2022.

Fannie Mae Long was joined in holy matrimony to Charlie Gibbs on February 2, 1952. From this union they raised six children: George A, Long, Charlie Gibbs, Jr. (deceased) Kenneth D. Gibbs, Maryetta D. (Gibbs) Denard, Glorietta L. (Gibbs) Dawkins and Johnell L. Gibbs.

Fannie Mae was a God-fearing woman, who loved God, her Family, and her Church. She was a member of Good Shepard Church of God In Christ, Durham, NC under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Stanley Roberts.
Fannie Mae earned her high school diploma by returning to evening school at Central High School Bridgeport, Connecticut. She continued her education by becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked to care for those needing assistance, often times receiving awards for Employee of the Month and Employee of the Year. Fannie was a dedicated worker until her retirement.

Fannie Mae was always a willing servant of God in every capacity. Fannie Gibbs was known for her sense of humor. Whenever you asked her how she was doing her response was “I’m doing well for an old lady.” If you were leaving her home and said, “I’m going to run,” her response would be “don’t run you should drive.” Fannie remained in good spirits after having to leave her home for medical reasons in August 2022 to move into an assisted living home. She embraced and enjoyed her stay at The Addison of Durham, where she would always state “how kind and nice the staff” were to her. She thanked them for caring for her and doing the things she could no longer do for herself. Everyone loved caring for her because of her attitude, her knowledge of the Bible, love of the Lord and for singing some of her favorite gospel hymns to them.

Fannie Mae Gibbs was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, Aunt, Great Aunt, church mother, friend, mentor, and lived by the biblical scripture Matthew 7:12, "So in everything, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, for this sums the Law and the Prophets.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NIV
A Time for Everything and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

In lieu of flowers the family request that you make donations to The Good Shepard Church of God In Christ at P.O. Box 802 Mebane, NC 27302, in honor of Fannie Mae Gibbs.
