Obituary for Mrs. Effie Holloway

Effie Jean Lyons Holloway was born on November 29, 1927 in Granville County, North Carolina to the late Annie M. and Isaac Lyons. She was the third of eight children. Her life was filled with the love of family, friends, reading, and various music genres.

Effie graduated from Mill Grove High School in Durham, NC. She lived through a great deal of significant historical events – the Great Depression, World War II, the Civil Rights Movements, the USA’s election of the first African-American President, the election of the first African-American woman Vice President and the unprecedented COVID-19 Pandemic.

On August 23, 1951, Effie was bound in love to her husband George P. Holloway, Sr., (deceased) and they created five beautiful children – Debra Holloway, Agretta H. Epps (William), George P. Holloway, Jr., (deceased) (Belinda), Franklin Holloway (deceased) and Fleechia Holloway. Effie’s love and care for her children was her heart’s desire and greatest accomplishment in life.

The fruits of her love blossomed in the faithfulness of her grandson, Marrio Johnson (Chapelle), the energetic loving vitality of her granddaughters, Andrea Epps and Jacqueline Spivey (Anye’) and the precious love she had for her grandson, Patrick Holder. She also cherished and instilled her love of family into her seven great-grandchildren, two great-great granddaughters and a host of other relatives, friends and children she considered to be a part of her family also. She will never be forgotten by those who received her love and were blessed to know her. Although her human form may be gone, her loving spirit will never cease to exist.

During Effie’s final months she was lovingly and diligently cared for by “Team Ef:” - Debra, Agretta, Fleechia, Marrio, Chapelle and the Amedisys Hospice team.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Annie Lee Lyons, Bessie May Lyons, Astoria L. Anderson, Ella L. Goss, Serena L. Boone and George T. Lyons. James H. Lyons (Gloria) is the only surviving sibling.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to continue her Legacy of Love for children and family.
