Obituary

Ms. Dorothy L. Waller, known to friends as "Dot", the daughter of the late John H. Waller and Willia Waller was born on December 6, 1931 in Granville County, NC.

She departed this life on September 3, 2020 at the Crescent Green of Carrboro Assisted Living Center after a lengthy illness.

Dorothy decided to devote her life to Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Mt. Zoar Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina where she served as the Church Clerk/Secretary and on the Usher Board. After moving from the county to the city of Durham, Dorothy joined First Calvary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her health failed. She served on the Usher Board, Board of Trustees, Sunday School teacher, Assistant Church Historian and was a member of Calvary Ministries of the West End, which is now the West End Community Foundation, Inc.

Dorothy was educated in the Durham Public School System and was a graduate of Mill Grove High School. She also was a graduate of National Business School in Nashville, Tennessee and attended Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. Her employment included North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, Floyd B. McKissick Enterprises/Soul City Company and Duke University Human Resources Department. She retired from Duke University after 17 years of service. After retirement, she worked part time at North Carolina Central University.

She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her loss:one brother, John H. Waller.; two sisters, Willia Alston of Richmond, Virginia and Margaret W. Young (Kevin) of Durham, NC and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by seven siblings: Foye Jones, Aserlee Evans, Reecy Justice, Carlye Waller, Saul Waller, Irene Evans and Maggie Thaxton; three nieces Annie Lloyd, Lyndale Justice and Veronica Thanxton.

My sincere condolences to my cousins. I'll always remember how nice Dorothy Lee and Martha were to me when I would go visit Aunt Willie Lee. Dorothy Lee had the most beautiful smile and pleasant personality. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love, Sherry Lyon (Minnie's daughter).
