Doris “Madea” Lyons, at age 86 of 2708 Sater Street Durham, NC quietly gained her heavenly wings on July 24th 2020 at her residence after illness.

Ms. Lyons was born February 25th 1934 to the late Carrie Graham. She was also preceded in death by 1 grandson, Dennis Sanders. She was a dedicated to her family and had a tremendous love for God.

She received her formal education in Durham County School System. Madea, as she was affectionally known, was a home maker and the community baby sitter for single working parents. She was an avid recycler that didn’t let 1 red cent go to waste. She understood the value in maximizing all sources of financial income. Madea’s resourceful nature ensured that her children and close family needs were met. She loved the fellowship of family over a big meal, especially during the holidays.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Alice Watkins and Frances Lyons; two daughters, Virginia Singletary (Joe) of NJ and Shelia Lyons of the home; one god daughter, Carrie Ann Watkins of the home; two sons, James Lyons and John Lyons of Durham; seven grandchildren, Chelsea Lyons, Cutisha Moore-Hicks, Natasha Currie, Nikki Singletary, Steven Singletary, Mark Singletary and Derrick Singletary; one special niece, Shonacee Archer (Dion); twenty great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close family friends.

I’m so sorry for your loss. May the God of all comfort help you during this difficult time. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4 & Psalms 83:18). Jesus prayed for God’s Kingdom to come because He knew it would intervene to solve all mankind’s problems even sickness and death. (Revelation 21:3,4 & Daniel 2:44).

I will always cherish Madea's memory. I enjoyed her company and got a big kick that she liked my sweet potato pies. She was a very special woman.
