Obituary for Donald Nathaniel "Bubba" Harvin

Donald Nathaniel Harvin, fondly known as Bubba, passed away November 18, 2021, at the Durham Veterans Hospital after a long illness. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Vernice Harvin and two brothers; Oscar Jr. and Grover Harvin. He attended Primary grades in Marion, SC and later received an Associate Degree in Business from Rutledge College in Durham, NC. A Veteran of the US Army, Donald served his country at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Donald retired from the Printing Department at North Carolina Central University after 25 years of service. After retirement, he returned to NCCU as a part-time maintenance contractor.

Donald took pride in his appearance; always well groomed and sharp as a tack! His attire coupled with his demeanor are what made him stand out in a crowd. People naturally gravitated to him; just loving his vibe and wanting to be around him. One year he visited his cousins' annual Fourth of July celebration. He was welcomed with open arms, given a plate of food and a drink to sip on but after roaming the house he realized he hadn't seen the host (his cousin Jackie). When Bubba asked for him, he was told that Jackie lived next door. Everyone laughed when Bubba told the story after he finally walked over to the correct house. The moral of this story is, Bubba was that dude who just fit in wherever he went and was loved by all. He could just walk in and be welcomed into the fold like he belonged. In the end, his wife was right by his side doing whatever she could to comfort him, During one of the last conversations Bubba had with Wendolyn (his niece) he said he accepted the Lord as his Savior; which made him completely ready for this last journey. / sought the LORD, and HE heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. -Psalm 34:4
