Obituary for Claude Lemuel Daniels

Claude L. Daniels, a lifelong resident of Durham, North Carolina was escorted to his heavenly home by a host of angels on Wednesday December, 21 2022. He was born on June 11, 1937 to Willie McDaniel and Mary Alice Daniels who greeted him in heaven. On December 26, 1971, Claude married Yvonne "Bonnie" Peace and God blessed them with their beautiful daughter LaRissa.

Whether you knew him from "the city" or as a Hillside Hornet, you were sure to know he loved life and was a follower of Christ. Claude dedicated his life to Christ at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and served the Lord and his community in various capacities. He was most remembered as Chairman of the Finance committee, he was pleased to sing in the Mass choir and the Men's Day choir, and coordinated church trips to Georgia, Ohio and Philadelphia among other locations.

Claude was a very proud Hillside Hornet, having graduated in the class of 1955. After that, he went on to attend North Carolina School of Business. In his late twenties, he went on to join the City of Durham Housing Inspectors team and after 30 years of service, he gracefully retired in 1999. He served as President of the Kings & Queens Club of Durham, NC for 4 years and also stood in brotherhood with the AS Hunter Masonic Lodge as well. Claude also served for several years as chief judge during elections for the Durham County Board of Elections.

Claude has one sister Carrie Johnson (Queens, NY) and was the very proud father of one daughter, LaRissa Daniels (Durham, NC). He imparted many life lessons to his three grandchildren that he absolutely adored, Ray-Von Daniels, Jay-Quan Pierce, and Jayla Pierce (all of Durham, NC) and his two great granddaughters, Amora Pierce (Oxford, NC) and Ariel Alston (Durham, NC). Also honoring his memory here on earth are his Godson, Earl Johnson, Jill Taylor his Goddaughter and generations of many nieces, nephews and cousins. He formed a long time friendship as a child with Earl Taylor who also greeted him upon his arrival in heaven.

Everyone who knew Claude felt his big heart and giving nature. He was a Jack of all trades, master of none but was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone. He will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors.
