Arthur Pettus, Sr was born April 10, 1934 to the late Mary Robertson and James Pettus in Oxford, North Carolina. He departed this life on Monday August 10, 2020 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
As the years past Arthur met the late Mozelle Clayton to which they were blessed with one son and 2 daughters. A few years later he met and married Margaret Lee Riley. They were blessed with one son and resided mostly in the Durham, North Carolina area.
Arthur, or A.C. as he was known “back in the day”, worked many la-borious jobs but was best at and enjoyed auto mechanics. He used to talk about how he loved to hear muffler pipes talk back to each other.
Arthur had a couple of nicknames, but he was mostly known as Pop. Pop would drop everything for a rod and reel. Yes, he loved to go fish-ing and didn’t mind being pushed to the pier when his legs wouldn’t carry him. Fishing was his happy place along with his sons and grand-sons.
Pop relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina where he began to attend Praise Temple Apostolic Faith Church, Inc. under the leadership of Pastor Vernon L. Spinks. It was here at the ripe and peaceful age of 78 that the word of God reached his heart and lead him to repentance. Soon after, he made the decision to be buried with Christ through the baptism in Jesus name. As the word of God promised, he was filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost not many days later. He was loved by his church family and was known as Pop Pettus to all.
Pop was preceded by two grandchildren Arthur Lee Pettus, III (Squrl) and Amber Nyeisha Pettus.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Margaret Lee Pettus of Raleigh, North Carolina; two sons - Arthur Pet-tus, Jr. and daughter-in-law (Linda) of Creedmoor, North Carolina and Terry Lewis Pettus daughter-in-law (Janika) of Raleigh, North Caroli-na; two daughters - Gloria Pettus and Deborah Pettus both of Durham, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends that loved him dearly
