Obituary for Ann Carolyn Breakfield (Sidberry)
Ann Carolyn Sidberry Breakfield, daughter of the late Avance Sr. and Hazel Sidberry was born in Wilmington, NC on December 24, 1942. She transitioned from this life on Friday, December 23, 2022 at the Duke Hock Family Pavilion. She was the second eldest of four siblings, Avance Jr. , Harry and the late Shirley.
Ann Carolynn was educated in Wilmington, NC and graduated from Williston, a historic African American school. In 1967, She attained the Bachelor’s of Science in Clothing, Textiles, and Related Arts at NC A&T State University.
While living in New York, Ann went on a blind date and met the love of her life. She was united in holy matrimony to Artillius Breakfield in June 1976 and to this union a child was born.
She was employed at Cornell Extension Program, NY State Division for Youth, Brownsville Community Center Counseling & Nutrition Education, the state of New York Department of Corrections Rikers Island as a Nutritionist/ Dietician where she retired.
Affectionately known as “Breeze”. Ann knew how to balance her home and who she was: Fashionista, great cook, antique collector, world traveler, and a helper to all. She was very active in her community and in her church,organizing and fundraising for NY State Assemblyman Annette Robinson (Ret),The Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuv, as the chairperson of the Annual Women’s Day at Brown Memorial church. For the past twenty years in Durham, she was a member of the Ebonettes and Women in Spirit at Union Baptist Church, and ensured delivery of food to people in her community.
Surviving to cherish her memories are her spouse, Artillius Breakfield, son, Artrell Breakfield; daughter-in-law, Denise; stepchildren, Debbie, Artillius, and Holly; grandchildren, AJ and Gabby; two brothers, Avance Jr and Harry; sister-in-law, Esther, along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and many, many friends all of which adored her.
