There comes a time in this wondrous life when we must answer the call of our Heavenly Father. This time came to David Albert Heggins on November 19, 2011, when he died peacefully in his home.
David was born in Wake County, on October 28, 1932, to the late Lucille Clay Wilson and Brooksie Heggins.
He served faithfully and then retired after 22 years in the United States Navy as a Signalman First Class. After returning to Durham, NC, he was employed by Duke Power Transit for 20 years.
There was nothing D.A. loved more than hunting. He was an active member of the Riverside Hunting Club, a longtime member at the Dorcas Lodge #460 and was a Master Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Bernard Heggins.
D.A. leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 26 years Emma Heggins; he is survived by three sons , Merv, Kelvin and Derrick Heggins; two daughters, Ramona Moore and Tina Heggins, all of Durham, NC; two stepsons, Lamar Seiffuddin of San Diego, CA, and Robert Herndon of Atlanta, GA; one stepdaughter, Elizabeth Locus of Durham, NC; four sisters, Verselle Shaw (Joe), Addie Nunn (James), Juanita Wilson, and Josephine Stewart, all of Durham;six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Cattrual Heggins and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, November 25, 2011 at Ellis D. Jones & Sons Funeral Home from 6-7 PM.
